Our Mission is to enrich the lives of at risk children through education in the areas of College, Career and the Arts.
Our Purpose is to create a support system for parentless, foster and homeless children to better the quality of their lives.
Our Goal is to build a College, Career and the Arts Education Center for the children to have a place to call home.
Who We Serve: we focus on improving the lives of more than 2,000 parentless, foster and homeless children in and around Los Angeles. The orphans and foster youths we support either have no family or their parents are institutionalized. They have no role models, little or no family contact and not much hope for the future. It’s a sad situation and Safety Harbor Kids is here to help break the vicious cycle of homelessness, poverty and prison that has ensnared these children.
Why We Do It: When foster children become 18 years old, they are released from their controlled environments out into the world with no support system, no family, no resources. In fact, 10,000 homeless youth are living on the streets of Los Angeles right now and 60% of them will end up in prison without our help!
ABOUT THE FOUNDERS
John Williams - SHK Founder
Safety Harbor Kids became his vision at the age of sixteen. Parentless at age nine, John was inspired by a philanthropic family he rented a room from in Malibu to complete high school and attend college. He learned manners, family values and respect for others from this family and thought that if he could touch other children’s lives in the same way, they, in turn, might help other children. Since the time his life was changed by this family, he vowed to help change others lives in the same positive reinforcing manner giving needy children the same hope and opportunity that was given to him.
Petrie Alexandra Williams - SHK President and Director
Carrying on her family’s community and charitable works, Petrie has pursued her passion for philanthropic endeavors in many ways including producing and directing commercials and procuring donations for nonprofits aiding woman and children. A current Producers Guild of America member, Petrie now focuses her skills, passion and experience to help give disadvantaged children a fighting chance. Under Petrie’s leadership and guidance, Safety harbor Kids has taken great strides in a short time with the success of having a profound and lasting effect on the children SHK serves.
